It’s been a long time since I’ve run two 100 mile races in the same calendar year, but when I hit the lotto in two of my bucket list races, Vermont 100 and Wasatch Front 100, I knew had I to accept both entries. The challenge would be that they are completely opposite types of races within eight weeks of each other. Vermont would be fast and runnable with 14,500 feet of gain and Wasatch would be a killer hike with nearly 25,000 feet of elevation gain. I chose to focus on running the elusive sub-24 hour finish at Vermont and was successful! But that meant only two months later I’d likely get my @$$ handed to me in the Wasatch Mountains.
