
“Are you Steph?” the volunteer at the 56km aid station asked me in the dark. “No, soy Andrea. ¿Dónde está Steph?!?” I asked incredulously. She left me in the dust after km 32 when I was struggling with the heat…she should be here by now. “We haven’t seen her since that aid either,” she replied. That’s no bueno; Steph is lost. But if anyone can find her way back on course, she can. Then I said yet another prayer to the race gods to keep my phone alive (now at 30% battery) several more hours so I could continue to stay on course or at least close to it.
