A short answer to “Why 200 miles?” is because 2017 marks my 10th year of ultrarunning and I was looking for a new kind of adventure. So after researching the few multi-day events, Bigfoot 200 caught my eye. With over 43,000 feet of elevation gain, I spent the summer doing lots and lots of climbing, but ended up doing most of my training solo. While it was lonely at times, it prepared me for long days in my head. I didn’t attend any true races and my longest run was only a 50K. But runs like the Boulder Skyline double provided upwards of 10,000′ of vertical in 27 miles. I felt prepared…and nervous…but I wanted to enjoy this adventure and viewed it as a fast hike.
