Standing at Whitney Portal on Tuesday morning, I took a deep breath and vowed to myself that I’d finish the entire John Muir Trail this time, come hell or high water…I’d attempted to fastpack the John Muir Trail in California the summer of 2021, but got pulled off course by my coach due to altitude sickness as a result of the surrounding wildfires and poor air quality (JMT Adventure Recap) While it was disappointing to not hike the entire trail when I was in such great shape, I ended up hiking 133 miles of the 221. It was amazing and beautiful, but I was determined to tackle the whole shebang in one shot.
